The Windows game Flatspace was and is an expansive space exploration game, a living universe with an emphasis on freedom for the player. The soundtrack was professionally produced, and here the music from the game is expanded and extended.

Two bonus tracks that didn't make it into the final release of the game are included too, as well as the full 4th and 5th movements from the original 2002 version of The Spiral Staircase.

In the early 2000s, A small number of CD-R copies of this album were produced on plain-silver CD-R discs with laser-printing on office paper. Most were sold with the game over the years, but a tiny number of copies remain, still cello-sealed. These are on sale now for the first time since 2010.
